Lawrence St. looking West, Appleton, Wis.

When I first started to put the information I had gathered about my ancestors into story form, I felt that something was missing. I had some photographs of the people I was writing about, but what about where they lived? What did Appleton look like at the turn of the century?

The solution? Postcards. Postcards for most of the Twentieth Century were a popular and inexpensive way to send a quick note. Today, they are found in great quantity at most antique stores, and on eBay. In addition they are relatively inexpensive to collect, and yet there is still the need to hunt to find that perfect street scene, or village building.

Here is some of my collection.
