Postcards
When I first started to put the information I had gathered about my ancestors into a story form, I felt that something was missing. I had some photographs of the people I was writing about, but what about where they lived? What did Appleton look like at the turn of the century?
The solution? Postcards. Postcards for most of the the Twentieth Century were a popular and inexpensive way to send a quick note – the text message of today. We can now find postcards in great quantity at most antique stores, and on eBay. In addition they are relatively inexpensive to collect and store, and satisfy that need to find the perfect street scene or village building.
Here is some of my collection.
